Why are there no job rates on our website?
We do many different types of Jobs for a wide variety of clients. Because our client base spans large and small clients and projects with sometimes fixed or daily/hourly costs it would be impossible to suggest charges for any project. Discovery is free and costs are clear after discovery.
Does Ziptechnologies accept work from outside Jamaica?
We have some clients in the Caribbean and North America.
What is Open Source?
Open source is a set of principles and practices that promote access to the design and production of goods and knowledge. The term was initially and is most commonly applied to the source code of software that is available to the general public with relaxed or non-existent intellectual property restrictions?
Does Discovery cost our clients?
No! Once we decide that we have the capacity to work with a potential client and the resources are available to complete the project within the client's time frame and budget, we assemble a team to complete a thorough discovery of his needs. There is no cost attached to this first step. Very often if we think it is appropriate we will also prepare a 'Phase Zero' mockup of the proposed site at no cost also.
How current is the information on ziplaw.com?
ZipLaw provides users with a clear distinction in relation to the currency of information. When selecting a legislation title, ZipLaw.com states the currency date of the "primary" material and then provides details of subsequent amendments to the primary material. We take the currency date from the compilation information in the government publication.
If the government publication does not provide a date, we take the date on which the last consolidated amendment came into force. If the government publication has never been reprinted, we take the assent date (for Acts) or the date of making (for Regulations). We are not an advertising company but we do work with Ad companies to create online Flash, Movie, Animation and static ads for clients. Our relationship is usually close with the Ad agencies of our clients.
Do you host your websites in Jamaica?
No! Jamaica does not have trunks that are fast enough or redundant enough to meet the needs of some of our larger clients. Some of our clients have 'time critical' data responsibilities and this requires us to host their information on one of the major worldwide Internet trunk intersections in a facility with triple redundancy in server farms, UPS backups, cooling facilities etc.
What is Web 2.0 and how does it relate to websites Zip builds?
Does "Web 2.0" mean anything? Till recently I thought it didn't, but the truth turns out to be more complicated. Web 2.0 is a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003. The Web of documents has morphed into a Web of data. We are no longer just looking to the same old sources for information. Now we’re looking to a new set of tools to aggregate and remix microcontent in new and useful ways.
These tools, the interfaces of Web 2.0, that allow us as designers to accomplish this, will become the frontier of design innovation.
